Blue-Green Algae Blooms

The best thing all of us can do is educate ourselves on the different types of algae-blooms and how to report them. YOU need to report the potential Blue-Green Algae Bloom, if it is in front of your shoreline, as the Ministry needs your permission to come onto your property to take samples from your shoreline for testing.

Algae are small, mostly microscopic plants that live in virtually all water bodies and are a necessary part of ecosystem integrity. Unfortunately, some types of algae are toxic to humans and animals, and as the climate is changing and water temperatures are rising algal blooms are becoming more prevalent.
